<今回はSARSについて話そう!>
Hello! This week we will have a good look at a topic from the latest world news!
Now that the news about SARS (Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome) seems to have died down, we can talk about it all with a bit more calm. This was a sent to me as a joke and it said "Summer in China" but since it is not written in a form I can read I hope the joke is funny!
So what do we know about Sars?
We know that it originated in China and was probably transmitted through the native cat, which is a delicacy in China.
Its spread across the globe was swift with Toronto in Canada as one of the sites the World Health Organisation issued a warning. The symptoms were flu-like with a fever and dry cough. It progresses so quickly that you must seek medical advice within 48 hours or the chance of survival is reduced.

Here is a conversation between two people about Sars-
Person 1- What do you think about Sars?
Person 2- I was alarmed because I had to travel to Hong Kong for business.
Person 1- Did you cancel your trip?
Person 2- Yes, I postponed it for a couple of months until the situation is resolved.
Person 1- Will you go there now?
Person 2- Yes I will go there now as it seems like the health authorities have Sars under control.

English exercises-
Use these words in a sentence-
Sars, epidemic, urgent, medical attention.
Learning tip for this week-
There are all sorts of ways you can learn but it is hard to get the pronunciation right. If you do not have a native English speaker to talk to try a voice dictionary. I use this to learn Japanese words and phrases. They are a great investment and you will then be able to hear how the word should be said. I will let you know where you can get them next mag.

Take care and e-mail me if you have problems at ajet10@hotmail.com
