Hello Everyone,
This edition of the mag is devoted to those who travel, study or work overseas…..or
who want to. There are so many people traveling
and living overseas that many places have a little piece of cultural ‘heaven’
just waiting for you.
Traveler Abroad
Every year thousands of Japanese students of various ages go overseas to
study at universities all over the globe. The U.S. is still one of the
most popular destinations. Wherever you go as a student or even as a traveler
you may feel a little culture shock. So when you get over your jetlag from
the flight to wherever you are going to study, live or travel make sure
you take it easy. In the U.S. for example there is no need to go without
the comforts of Japanese culture.
Here is a great restaurant in LA called Raku
”Raku”
Raku is a Japanese and Korean restaurant. This cozy place with rural charm
has about 100 home-style dishes on the menu, including vegetarian dishes,
34 kinds of sushi ($2.50), Korean pancakes ($6.00), and fried rice with
kimchi, the famous Korean spicy pickled vegetable ($5.50). There were 16
different kinds of dishes on the daily special board, starting around $5.00.
Their most highly recommended is the “Zucchini Tempura,” deep-fried zucchini
flowers stuffed with chopped shrimp and enoki mushrooms ($7.50).
Their drink menu includes a variety of Japanese beer, sake (six varieties) and shochu (Japanese distilled spirits ? five varieties). Many visitors to Raku have become repeat customers who like the taste of Mom’s cooking. The owner, Bangja Hong, who was born in Japan, speaks English, Japanese and Korean.
