Sydney is a city that has something for everyone.
There is so much to see that even a week is just not enough time.

Top 10 suggested places to see....

1. Blue Mountains - The beautiful mountains just outside the city of Sydney.
{Katoomba falls}

2. Hunter Valley Wineries - Try some of the best wines and enjoy the country scenery.
You will never want to leave!
3. Sydney Tower - Enjoy a 360 degree view and eat fantastic cuisine
at the revolving restaurant.

4. Darling Harbor- If you love to shop then this is the place for you!
5. Sydney Aquarium - Come and see Australia's largest aquarium.
It has underwater tunnels and cute fairy penguins.
6. The Rocks - The first European settlement back in 1788.
The tourist information center is here at 106 George Street.

Here the staff are helpful and they speak Japanese.
7. Queen Adelaide Building - This is a beautiful place to go and browse.
I loved this building so make sure you get to see it.

8. Oxford Street- The place to go to eat.
So many different Restaurants to choose from.

9.Bondi Beach- Golden beaches are really beautiful and this is a great example.
10. Taronga Park Zoo - If you love animals then this is the place to go. It is huge!

Blue Mountains National Park

The City of the Blue Mountains is located about an hour or so out side of Sydney.
The Blue Mountains National Park is spectacular and the view is a blue color
because of the blue gum trees that cause a blue haze.
The most famous rock formation is called 'The three Sisters'.

Walking tracks vary from short strolls to  day walks to longer hikes
which require camping overnight in the forest.
Phone (02) 4787-8877 for more information.

Topic : Crime and security
Sydney is a fairly safe city. Even so, visitors should always be careful.
Do not leave valuables unattended.
Carry small amounts of cash in a money belt and leave important documents
in the hotel safe.
Many inner-city streets are well-populated at night, but avoid walking alone
through quieter areas such as lanes and parks.
In an emergency, dial 000.
For less urgent matters, telephone the Police Assistance Line, 13 1444.
Police stations around the city are located at:
132 George Street (corner George and Argyle streets),
The Rocks; 570 George Street
(opposite the Town Hall, closed until early August, 2000);
192 Day Street (corner of James Street), Darling Harbor;
and 151 Goulburn Street, Surry Hills
.

Topic: Money matters
The currency is the Australian dollar.
Coins come in five, 10, 20 and 50 cent units and one and two dollar units.
Notes come in five, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollar units.
There is no limit to the amount of foreign or Australian currency
you can bring in or take out of the country, but amounts of more than
$10, 000 either way
must be declared to Customs.
There are four big banks in Australia with branches everywhere:
Westpac, the Commonwealth, ANZ and the National.
There are foreign exchange offices throughout the city.
Credit cards are accepted in most places.
Automatic teller machines and EFTPOS
(electronic funds transfer at point of sale)
are similarly widespread and increasingly used by travelers
who have made arrangements to allow access to this facility
with their bank before leaving home.
Travelers cheques are accepted by a large number of hotels,
restaurants and larger stores.

<体のご不自由な方へは...>
Topic: Disabled travelers
Sydney is reasonably well-equipped for disabled travelers.
Facilities for the disabled are widely available in public buildings,
hotels, large shops and restaurants.
All Sydney taxi companies have vehicles that will take wheelchairs;
ring the central booking number, 8332 0200.
Ferries and trains and some bus routes cater for the needs of disabled
commuters, with services such as lifts and ramps; telephone the Bus,
Rail and Ferry Infoline, 13 1500.
The Australian Quadriplegic Association (AQA) has re-released its excellent
guide Access Sydney in time for the Sydney Olympic Games; to get a copy,
ring 9661 8855.
AQA also has a comprehensive database on facilities
and is happy to help with phone enquiries.
Another excellent source is an independent website that regularly audits
venues to confirm their degree of accessibility, accessibility.com.au.

Thank you to Mana

Once again here is another site recommended by Mana.
It is great so please have a look!

This is very lovely greeting card with Japanese Ukiyoe, traditional instrumental sounds,
and Haiku.
It is one good way of presenting a part of Japanese culture to friends and epals
in other countries.

Topic: Beetles
To all of you music lovers it was sad news to here that George Harrison passed away this week.
He had a long battle with cancer.

He was one of the four members in the band that made the world sing.
Next time you go to karaoke please dedicate a song to this great man.

{J.Harrison}
